Relieving Back Pain with Stretches and Massages

The spine is perhaps the most important part of the body that ensures that the entire body functions in the normal manner. With age, however, the spine undergoes wear and tear and may get prone to injuries and problems. Problems in the spine may result in a change in the posture and may even lead to back and neck pains. The pains in the neck and back need to be treated using the right techniques or else they may turn chronic and lead to several other health problems.

Pain in the lower back is particularly very gruesome for those who experience it. A pain in the lower back causes discomfort in the entire body and also results in a bad posture. Pain in the lower back can be treated with stretches and massages.

The following are a few stretches that can help alleviate the pain in the lower back:
  • Knee to chest stretches are very good for relieving lower back pain. One must lie down on a flat surface and bring a knee to the chest using the hands to do so. The body is not to be moved in this stretch. Repeating this stretch exercise a few times can help relieve lower back pain.
  • Crossed-leg stretch: For this stretch, while lying down on the back, cross the left leg over so the left foot rests just above the knee on the right leg. One must bend and lift the right leg toward the chest and grab the back of the right thigh as one lifts to extend the stretch and pull the leg as close to the chest as possible. This stretch helps to relieve lower back pain successfully.
  • Cross and twist: For this stretch, one must lie flat and cross the right foot over the left knee resting the foot flat on the floor. The lower body must then be gently twisted to the left without lifting the shoulders. One must use the left hand to pull the right knee forward for a complete stretch and to get relief from lower back pain.
Massage therapies for lower back pain include:
  • Massaging in circular friction motions along the sides of the spine and around the hip is one of the best massage techniques for lower back pain. This massage therapy relieves pain from the lower back muscles thereby alleviating the paint.
  • Massage using compression, kneading and friction on the top of the gluteus is a well-known massage technique for relieving lower back pain.
